Last week E2E took its ScaleUp2Success series event to Edinburgh and what an incredible evening it was. The key discussion was around getting Scottish scale-ups to start scaling, among other business topics. “It was wonderful to have had the opportunity to showcase some of UK’s inspirational entrepreneurs and business leaders who are in support of E2E and its mission”, says Shalini Khemka. From E2E, the team and the board, we formally say thank you to you all.
The evening was chaired by Russell Dalgleish who started off by giving the description of a scale-up, as a business with at least five or more employees, achieving an average annual growth rate of 20% or more for three years straight (according to the Scale Up Institute). Joining Russell on the panel was Jim McColl OBE, Peter Proud and Alison Cooper. Jim McColl OBE, CEO and Chairman of Clyde Blowers Capital shared insights on his new bank venture positioned to support SMEs. Jim said: “There’s nothing to hold us back from growing globally… We all have strengths and weaknesses. Let’s play to the strengths.”
Overall, there was some great inspiration and insights into what it takes to scale up. Peter Proud, Founder and CEO, Cortex Worldwide, added by saying, “It takes as long to walk a small dog as a big dog. Go for the big deals! Aim high and don’t give up.”
