“Flamingo Land Resort was established in 1959 when Edwin Pentland Hick sold his cinema chain to buy a bankrupt country club and start a zoo. A colony of flamingos were among the first occupants. Flamingo Land added a small fun fair in the 1960s and, by the 1970s, amusement rides became permanent. Bought in 1978 by the Gibb family, the family attraction has become a nationally recognised family day out, offering a zoo, theme park, accommodation and camping.”
