About the Event
 ̄
This virtual evening reception is your opportunity to connect with Lord Bird MBE, Founder of The Big Issue Group and ‘one of the most interesting and inspiring characters you are likely to come across’, as well as the who’s who of entrepreneurship in the city. We will also be joined by Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas, two Stanford Graduate School of Business professors who’ve just released a book about the importance of the under-leveraged tool of humour in the business world. The talk will explore current challenges, experiences, and ideas over a glass of wine in a unique setting.
Lord Bird MBE along with Gordon Roddick of The Body Shop launched The Big Issue in September 1991, the magazine that now appears around the world and whose high standard of reporting has won the magazine a brace of high-profile media awards. Along with his entrepreneurial achievements, Lord Bird has a history more colourful than the Northern Lights, and stories that will have you crying, laughing, but ultimately in complete awe of this larger than life individual, that not only embraces life, but teaches others how to do so.
Naomi and Jennifer both teach the popular course Humor: Serious Business at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where they help some of the world’s most hard-driving, blazer-wearing business minds harness the power of humor to lead. They’ve also written a book on the topic: Humor, Seriously: Why Humor is a Secret Weapon in Business and Life. And the UK version – Humour, Seriously. Naomi and Jennifer share findings from behavioral scientists, advice from world-class comedians, and stories from inspiring business leaders to reveal how humor works and — more importantly — how you can use it to be more effective at work and more joyful in life.
