Oliver Tuffney is the Co-Founder of the online marketplace, Rated Driving. Rated Driving was built with the mission to make getting on the road easy and accessible for all new drivers.
As is often the way with start-ups, the business was born out of frustration.
Oliver’s brother and Co-Founder, Kevin Tuffney was previously decided to become a driving instructor, however, after taking the necessary exams and being a great teacher, he was unable to generate enough business to make a living.
It became apparent that given the world of learning to drive is highly fragmented (40,000 instructors on the UK), with low tech adoption (60% of instructors have no website) and the experience of learning to drive is pre-historic a marketplace is what the category needed.
Since launching the Rated Driving app in late 2021, the platform is now home to +600 driving instructors and has had many thousands of learner drivers find, book and buy their driving lessons via the app.
Getting on the road, however, entails far more than just driving lessons. New drivers must also make the purchases of first cars and first insurance, both of which are significant purchases and entail low levels of consumer trust.
The next leg of the Rated Driving journey will be to integrate first cars and first insurance into the platform, to provide new drivers with an easy, end-to-end, “getting on the road” experience.
